On December 9, 2019, the delegation from the School of International and Public Affairs of Jilin University was invited to visit the Department of World Politics of Moscow State University. Professor Yu Jie from the Department of World Politics of Moscow State University and Katya, the young faculty representative of the Department of World Politics of Moscow State University, attended the meeting. Natalia, the deputy director of the Department of World Politics in charge of international cooperation, attended and hosted the meeting.
During the meeting, Director Natalia extended a warm welcome to the delegation from the School of International and Public Affairs of Jilin University. She first introduced the establishment, development, and achievements of the Department of World Politics at Moscow State University. The Department of World Politics was established in 2003. After more than ten years of development, the Department of World Politics has become a recognized education and research center for the study of Russian international relations and enjoys a reputation in foreign academic circles.
The department is well-known for its professional qualities, with a collection of famous teachers. distinguished state and social activists, and experienced experts regularly come to the department to give speeches to students. Complete majors, personalized training, solid subject foundation, and rich teaching practice are the unique advantages of the Department of World Politics, which attract students from Moscow and all over the world to study here.
Professor Yu Jie warmly welcomed the delegation from the School of International and Public Affairs. He said that the Department of World Politics attaches great importance to student training and has strict and solid foreign language teaching, which has laid a foundation for cultivating international talents with cross-cultural communication competence. The department offers more than ten foreign language learning courses, and students can choose freely. The demand for learning Chinese is increasing year by year. The students are also glad to have face-to-face communication with teachers and students from China.
On behalf of Dean Xiao Xi of the School of International and Public Affairs of Jilin University, Dr. Qiao Rui, the team leader, expressed her gratitude to the Department of World Politics of Moscow State University for inviting teachers and students of our school to visit.
Afterwards, she briefly introduced the development, value and goals of SIPA to the teachers and students of the Department of World Politics. The School of International and Public Affairs was established in 2012. Relying on the all-English international student program established in 2006, it has achieved gratifying results in student training, regional and country studies, and international exchanges.
In response to Russia’s concerns about the current situation of research on Russia at SIPA, Dr. Qiao Rui pointed out that the School of International and Public Affairs attaches great importance to the cooperation and interaction in the political and cultural fields between China and Russia, and has formed a certain scale of scientific research team and scientific research characteristics, which includes research of Russia's soft power.
During the exchange session for young students, teachers and students of the Department of World Politics discussed with our students the role and influence of strengthening non-governmental exchanges in promoting bilateral relations, and the image of Russia in the eyes of Chinese students. Liu Zhichen, Hu Shuai and other students answered these questions from different angles. Zhang Cihan, Li Zhengrong and other students also asked questions to learn about the specific measures taken by the Department of World Politics in recruiting international students and promoting youth exchange. Teacher Katya and Director Natalia answered questions that students were concerned about, the students of the Department of world politics also talked about their feelings. Teachers and students from both sides conducted in-depth exchanges on energy cooperation between China and Russia, the role of media network in shaping the image of these two countries, the development of Chinese language education in Russian universities, and the experience of talent training in international organizations of Moscow State University.
After the meeting, Dr. Qiao Rui and director Natalia exchanged views on academic visits, exchange of young students, scientific research writing and other issues between the two sides. On behalf of the School of International and Public Affairs, Dr. Qiao Rui extended invitation to scholars and students of the Department of World Politics of Moscow State University. It is believed that this visit will open up multi-level and multi-field cooperation between the two departments.
The Department of World Politics of Moscow State University also cordially invited Dean Xiao Xi to visit the department at an appropriate time to reach concrete cooperation intentions and promote pragmatic cooperation between the Moscow State University and the Jilin University.
Established in 2003, the Department of World Politics at Moscow State University has received strong support from Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin and other relevant departments of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The current director is Kokoshin Andrei Afanasyevich, the famous Russian state activist, politician, Doctor of history, professor, and academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The Department of World Politics at Moscow State University has four teaching and research sections: international security, regional issues of world politics, foreign policy information assurance, international organizations and world political processes.
Students of the Department of World Politics have the opportunity to take inter-departmental courses of Moscow State University. These courses are taught by teachers from the Department of Economics, Law, History and other departments of Moscow State University. World-renowned scholars in many subjects and senior officials of Russian state institutions also teach in the department.
